The Department of Architecture in the O’More College of Architecture and Design at Belmont University seeks applications for a faculty position beginning August 1, 2026, either as a tenure-track faculty or professor of practice (see “Required Qualifications” below).

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preparing and teaching undergraduate courses as integrated in the program’s curriculum of seminar and studio courses with an emphasis on areas of expertise in architectural or urban design, architectural history/theory, professional practice, or building technology.
  • Student recruitment, academic advising, mentoring, and retention in alignment with and in support of the University’s Christ-centered mission and values statement.
  • Scholarly and/or creative activity commensurate with rank appointment
  • College and university service

Required qualifications:

A terminal degree in architecture or a closely related field (e.g.Ph.D., M.Arch., or foreign equivalent) is required for appointment in a tenure-track position. Applicants without acknowledged terminal degrees but holding similar appropriate credentials and/or a record of significant professional accomplishment will be considered for appointment as Professor of Practice.

Teaching experience for Professors of Practice is not required, however it is a preferred qualification for additional consideration in the selection process when the candidate has demonstrated effectiveness teaching at the college level.

  • Record of scholarly/creative accomplishment appropriate to the discipline
  • Record of achievement in professional practice settings
  • Credentialing with appropriate professional licensure

As all Belmont undergraduates complete an innovative general education program with significant interdisciplinary components, Belmont University is particularly seeking applicants who can demonstrate the interest and ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses in this program.

Engaged in courses and extracurricular activities stress the values of environmental and cultural stewardship, community service, and professional ethics, students benefit from an integrated curriculum that joins their learning across architecture’s sub-fields and throughout the campus, with special opportunities to emphasize philosophy, environmental science, and design for health care and the performing arts. The B.Arch. also preserves 18 credit hours for students to pursue diverse intellectual interests or a minor.

The Department of Architecture is housed within the O’More College of Architecture and Design, a creative community of architecture, fashion design & merchandising, and interior design that serves its undergraduate students by providing professionally oriented programs integrated with liberal arts-based education.
